California Water Policy Conference

Once again the California Water Policy Conference Planning Committee has developed a stimulating conference agenda that will take the leading water issues of the day head-on and bring all participants into the heart of the debate and problem-solving. The conference will feature speakers who have state and local perspectives as well as workshops on engaging topics such as:
Going for Broke: Financing the Delta Fix
Groundwater Overdraft: Are We Stealing from Our Future?
Agricultural Water Use Efficiency
Pushing the Sustainability Envelope: Onsite Water Reuse
Removing the Klamath River Dam
Science, Money and Politics: Can the Coexist?
Water Rights in a Climate Changed California
and more…..

Dr. Peter Gleick, President, Pacific Institute for Studies in Development
The conference will open with a keynote presentation by Dr. Peter Gleick.  Dr. Gleick is co-founder and president of the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment and Security in Oakland, California.  He is an internationally recognized water expert and was named a MacArthur Fellow in October 2003 for his work.

Brian Fagan, Professor of Anthropology, formerly of UC Santa Barbara
Our lunch speaker on Thursday will be Brian Fagan, Ph.D.  Dr. Fagan is a former Professor of Anthropology at UC Santa Barbara. He has lived a full life with travels that have taken him to the far corners of the world.  All of his training and experiences come to life in an engaging speaking style.  Inspired by his previous experience speaking at our conference, Dr. Fagan wrote his newest book, Elixir: A History of Water and Humankind.  We are both honored and excited that he will be joining us once again.

The California Water Policy Conference is a project of POWER - Public Officials for Water and Environmental Reform. POWER is an organization of California water agencies and officials dedicated to promoting public accountability and environmentally sustainable water policies and practices.
